The Urban Unit Partnership

The Urban Unit, under a project of the Punjab Government and supported by the Energy Policy Institute at the University of Chicago, is leading an effort to expand Pakistan’s air quality monitoring capacity. A total of 160 outdoor monitors are being installed across 10 major cities, creating one of the country’s most extensive low-cost monitoring networks.

The data collected from these devices is being made openly available through an online portal, where residents, researchers, and policymakers can view trends, download datasets, and use the information to guide decisions. By ensuring public access, the project supports local governments in developing city-level clean air plans and also gives citizen groups the tools to advocate for healthier air across Pakistan.
