Pai Community Monitoring Network

George Wolstencroft, a longtime resident of Pai in Northern Thailand, has led the effort to bring community air quality monitoring to his town. With support from AirGradient and AWS, he successfully deployed 30 outdoor monitors across key locations such as a health center, the border patrol station, the mayor’s office, and the immigration office. This network provides real-time information on air quality across Pai, making data accessible to its residents.

For the community, the monitors are especially important during the burning season, when air quality can decline sharply. Real-time data allows people to take immediate precautions to protect their health, while the long-term records offer valuable insights into seasonal and yearly air quality patterns.
