Afri-SET Partnership

Based at the University of Ghana, Afri-SET West is the first facility in Sub-Saharan Africa dedicated to evaluating low-cost air quality monitors under local conditions. With West Africa’s unique climate, the accuracy of monitors cannot be assumed without testing.

Each year, Afri-SET assesses and calibrates multiple sensor types against reference monitors, ensuring they perform reliably across different seasons. The results are published openly, giving manufacturers, researchers, and the public access to trustworthy performance data.

Beyond testing, Afri-SET also trains students, NGOs, and air quality professionals through workshops, building local expertise in sensor evaluation and calibration. By tailoring monitoring to African realities, Afri-SET is strengthening the foundation for cleaner air and informed action across the region.
