GO AQS Executive Summary
GO AQS (Global Open Air Quality Standards) aims to establish a clear, globally understandable benchmark for clean indoor air. Today’s IAQ landscape is fragmented: guidance is scattered, often hard to interpret, and frequently focuses on ventilation rates instead of pollutant concentrations.
GO IAQS: Indoor Guidelines
- One component of GO AQS is GO IAQS (Global Open Indoor Air Quality Standards), built to be easy to understand and actionable.
- GO IAQS is not intended for occupational safety (handled by bodies like OSHA/EU-OSHA/NIOSH).
- The guidelines are structured in two tiers to enable adoption with minimal investment, while offering a path to stricter health protection.
GO IAQS Score (AQI)
- A user-friendly integer score from 10 (best) to 0 (worst) with three categories: Good (A) (Blue), Moderate (B) (Orange), Unhealthy (Z) (Red).
- Includes category-based health advice designed for quick decisions and clear communication.
- Uses a multi-pollutant approach: the overall score is driven by the worst pollutant score, and when multiple pollutants reach similar levels in Moderate or Unhealthy, the score is reduced conservatively (synergistic-effects logic). If all available pollutant indices are equal in those ranges, the total score becomes the next lower value.
- The score indicates the dominant pollutant(s) to support mitigation.
Note: GO AQS currently does not set a single TVOC limit due to lack of specificity and varying health impacts; elevated TVOC should trigger further investigation.
