AirGradient Open Air Max: Status LED and Reporting Intervals

Status LED behavior

Phase LED pattern Status
Power on Solid blue Device is starting
Startup Fast blink x2 Initializing SIM or connecting to cellular network
Startup Fast blink x3 Connected; entering normal phase
Startup Fast blink x4 Data successfully sent; entering normal phase
Error Slow blink x5 Network connection failure
Error Slow blink x2 Sensor initialization failure
Error Slow blink x3 Data transmission failure
Normal LED off All OK; no issues

If the LED shows a network connection failure, check that the installation location has 4G coverage. The monitor will automatically retry.

Reporting Interval

The Open Air Max collects sensor readings and transmits them periodically to AirGradient servers.

By default, the Open Air Max measures every three minutes and sends data to the dashboard every nine minutes. This means dashboard data may have a delay of up to nine minutes, but readings are still available in three-minute resolution.

If transmission fails, the device buffers the data and attempts to send it again later.

Power Modes

Starting from firmware version 0.7.0, the Open Air Max adjusts its measurement and transmission intervals based on power source and battery level.

Scenario Power source Connectivity Measure interval Transmit interval Config/OTA check
Standard mode USB or >10V Cellular 3 mins 9 mins Every 90 mins
Standard mode USB or >10V WiFi 3 mins 3 mins Every 90 mins
Power saving Battery 9.5-9.9V Cellular 30 mins 90 mins Daily
Deep power saving Battery <9.5V Cellular 60 mins 180 mins Daily

Why Dashboard Data May De Delayed

On cellular, the monitor usually sends batches every nine minutes. This is normal and helps reduce data and power usage.

If the monitor has just powered on, allow at least 15 minutes before troubleshooting missing dashboard data.
