Choose the method below based on whether you need to preserve the monitor's historical data.

Keep the monitor's historical data Move the entire Location to the destination Place. You must be an administrator in both Places.
Move only the monitor and start a new dataset Remove the monitor from its current dashboard and register it in the destination Place.

For an explanation of how Places and Locations organize monitors and their data, see What are Places and Locations in the AirGradient Dashboard?.

Move the monitor and preserve its historical data

To preserve the monitor's historical data, move its entire Location from the source Place to the destination Place. You must be an administrator in both the source and destination Places.

Do not remove the monitor hardware or delete its Location first. Follow Move Locations to Another Place.

Moving a Location preserves its historical measurement data. However, its alarms, user access, and notes are deleted, and its Location Group assignment is cleared. Record anything you need before the move and recreate it in the destination Place afterward.

Move the monitor without its historical data

Use the following method only when you do not need to move the historical data with the monitor. The existing data remains associated with the original Location, and the destination Location starts a separate dataset after registration.

Before you start

  • The current dashboard user must be able to manage the monitor.
  • The new user must have access to the AirGradient Dashboard.
  • Have the monitor's serial number available. It is printed on the monitor.

Move the monitor

1. Remove the monitor from the current dashboard

The current dashboard user must remove the monitor hardware before it can be registered elsewhere.

Follow How to Remove a Monitor from the AirGradient Dashboard.

Remove the monitor hardware only. Do not delete the original Location unless its historical data is no longer needed.

2. Register the monitor in the new dashboard

After the monitor has been removed:

For existing product-specific registration instructions, see:

If the monitor cannot be registered

If the new user sees This monitor already exists on another location, the monitor is still linked to the previous dashboard or Location. Confirm that the previous dashboard user removed the monitor hardware, then try registration again.

See Error: This monitor already exists on another location.
