AirGradient Open Air: Setup and Overview

Welcome to your AirGradient Open Air. This guide takes you from opening your monitor, setting it up, understanding its readings and more.

1. Unbox and prepare the monitor

Fully assembled monitors

Fully assembled monitors come ready to use. Check that the box contains the monitor, two metal cable ties, and the 4 m USB cable. See Unboxing the AirGradient Open Air.

See Powering the AirGradient Open Air for complete power guidance.

3. Connect the monitor

Open Air WiFi model (O-1PST)

Follow Connecting Your AirGradient Open Air to WiFi. The WiFi model requires a 2.4 GHz WiFi network with internet access.

Open Air cellular model (O-1PST-CE)

The cellular model sends data over the mobile network instead of WiFi. Place it where mobile coverage is available, similar to the coverage required by a mobile phone.

4. Create your Dashboard account and add the monitor

Follow Registering Your AirGradient Open Air on the AirGradient Dashboard.

5. Confirm that the monitor is reporting

Check the status LED

The Open Air does not have a display. The LED on the bottom communicates setup progress, connection status, and errors. During normal operation, the LED remains off..

See Understanding the LED Indicator on Your AirGradient Open Air for each blink pattern and what it means.

Check the AirGradient Dashboard

Open app.airgradient.com and confirm that the monitor shows online and that its Last Update time changes.

Use AirGradient Dashboard: Measurements and Interpretation to learn what each measurement and unit means and how to read the graphs.

6. Choose the location and mount the monitor

Choose the location before installing the monitor permanently. Use a shaded, naturally ventilated position where air can move freely around the enclosure. Mount the monitor approximately 1 m or higher above the ground, with the blue vent facing downward.

  1. Follow Where Should I Place the Open Air? to choose a representative and accessible location.
  2. Temporarily power the monitor there and confirm that it reports to the Dashboard.
  3. Follow How Do I Mount the Open Air? to secure the monitor and protect its power connection.
