AirGradient Go: Frequently Asked Questions
AirGradient Go: Frequently Asked Questions
For the initial setup process, start with the AirGradient Go Quick Start Guide.
First use and display
Can I use AirGradient Go without the app?
Yes. AirGradient Go can display and record readings without being paired to a phone. The app is needed for features such as viewing current readings on your phone, accessing stored routes, and configuring supported settings from the app.
See the AirGradient Go Quick Start Guide for the standalone, app, and Dashboard data paths.
Why does the e-ink display flicker?
The flicker is normal. The e-ink display performs a full refresh every 180 seconds to keep the screen clear. In Offline mode, the display refresh follows the selected measurement interval.
Does the display have a backlight? Why are Front LEDs missing?
No. The e-ink display does not have a backlight.
Front LEDs were removed from the latest hardware revisions because they did not add enough useful functionality. The Front LED setting is also unavailable in the latest firmware versions and removed from Hardware Tests.
How do I update the firmware manually?
The latest firmware and manual update instructions are available on AirGradient Monitor Firmware Updates.
Measurements
Why are the CO2 readings inaccurate on a new monitor?
The CO2 sensor must be manually calibrated before first use. Take the Go outdoors to fresh air, restart it, and then start the CO2 calibration action. Using the app is preferable because breathing close to the monitor while operating its buttons can affect calibration.
Follow the complete procedure in AirGradient Go: CO2 Readings and Calibration.
Why are the PM readings different from another AirGradient monitor?
AirGradient Go uses a Sensirion SPS30 PM sensor. Other AirGradient monitor models use Plantower PM sensors, so differences of approximately 5 µg/m³ are expected.
When comparing monitors, place them together and compare readings over the same period rather than comparing individual measurements. See What AirGradient Go Measures and AirGradient Go: Technical Specifications.
Why are the temperature readings higher and the humidity readings lower?
The temperature sensor can be affected by heat generated by the battery and other internal components. Relative humidity depends on temperature, so the warmer conditions inside the monitor can also make the humidity reading appear lower. Temperature and humidity compensation is planned for a future firmware update.
Why is the altitude reading lower than my actual altitude or negative?
AirGradient Go currently estimates altitude from atmospheric pressure. However, sea-level pressure is not constant and changes with weather conditions. This can make the calculated altitude higher or lower than the actual altitude and may sometimes produce a negative value, such as -51 m.
An inaccurate altitude estimate does not mean that the monitor is defective. It is a limitation of calculating altitude directly from the current pressure reading without local sea-level pressure data.
We are investigating an improved calculation that uses local sea-level pressure information. This may require an internet connection or GPS-based location data.
Why are TVOC or NOx readings blank or shown as raw values in Offline mode?
The TVOC and NOx index calculations require continuous sensor operation. Offline mode uses sleep cycles to save battery, so the monitor may show raw sensor values or blanks instead of index values.
See AirGradient Go: Operating Modes.
Battery and power
Why does the battery last only 8 to 12 hours?
Battery life depends strongly on the measurement interval and other active features. If you do not need readings every few seconds, select a longer interval such as 5 or 15 minutes. GPS, route tracking, and active connections also affect runtime.
See AirGradient Go: Battery Life and Care.
App, WiFi, and Dashboard
Why can't I enable Stream data to server?
Register the AirGradient Go in the AirGradient Dashboard first. Then connect the monitor to the app, open Configure My Monitor, and enable Stream data to server.
See Pair AirGradient Go With the AirGradient App.
Why can't I view the monitor in the app over WiFi?
The app uses Bluetooth to show current readings from AirGradient Go in Portable mode. In Stationary mode, the monitor sends readings directly to the AirGradient Dashboard over WiFi; the app is not used as the data relay.
See Connect AirGradient Go to WiFi and AirGradient Go: Operating Modes.
GPS and tracking
Can I record air-quality data without recording GPS coordinates?
Yes. Set GPS Mode to Always Off, then start tracking. The GPS module remains asleep and no GPS coordinates are collected, while sensor readings continue to be recorded.
The current monitor and app still use the terms tracking and route for this recording. See AirGradient Go: Route Tracking and GPS.
Hardware and troubleshooting
What should I do if the touch buttons become unresponsive or register touches by themselves?
Perform a hard reset. This can resolve unresponsive buttons and touches that register without the buttons being pressed. A hard reset does not delete data or change monitor settings, WiFi credentials, or Bluetooth pairing.
See AirGradient Go: Performing a Hard Reset.
Is AirGradient Go waterproof?
No. AirGradient Go is water resistant only when it is kept upright. Its air inlets are on the bottom, which helps resist water arriving from above. Water can enter and damage the monitor if it is placed in another orientation or exposed to unsuitable conditions.
